Wandering Aengus Ciderworks - Anthem Hops

Johnny Hoppleseed
Yeah, I spend way too much time griping about the constant rain here in Portland. I realize that on a day like today--when it's 91 degrees in the shade and my face feels like it's melting off at 9:30 PM.

Air conditioning is not typically necessary here in Stumptown, except on those rare occasions--like today--when it's hotter than freaking hell. Such a scorcher calls for something ice cold and refreshing. Cider sounds really, really good.

Today's heat busting choice is Anthem Hops from Wandering Aengus Ciderworks. The label reports an ABV of 6.5%. It also says the stuff is made with Cascade hops--my favorite.

The cider poured from bomber into glass a clear, straw yellow color. There was zero head but lots of lively carbonation.

Aroma was apple, grape and pear. Floral and grassy hops in the background.

Taste was primarily crisp, tart apple. Pleasant, mild hop bitterness, but not too overpowering. Nice sweet/tart balance.

Thin mouthfeel with abundant carbonation. Very dry finish.

Good stuff and mighty refreshing on this hot, hot, freaking hot day. I like it and I'm giving Anthem Hops a BeerGuyPDX rating of 3 crushed cans out of 4.
