Portland Brewing Company - ZigZag River Lager

Zigzag Lager Whiskey Chaser
I like whiskey chasers. A big shot of a tasty, premium whiskey and then you wash that sucker down with an ice-cold beer. Traditionally, you have to do this with a lager, unless you want the beer and whiskey to have a flavor battle on your tongue--which could be interesting, but not what I'm looking for tonight.

Tonight, I have a shot of Golden Single Malt teamed up with a pint of Portland Brewing's ZigZag Lager.

The beer poured into my Shaker pint a clear, light copper color with a fizzy white head. The head dissipated very quickly and left little to no lacing behind.

Aroma is faint grassy hops behind light malt. There's a bit of an earthiness to the smell, otherwise, not much in the nose from this brew.

Taste is malt and grain up front. Just a bit of citrus and bitter from the hops.

Very clean and crisp and certainly a head above your typical mass-production lagers.

Okay, now I'm ready for the whiskey. Bam, goes down the shot and then chug that brewski!

Perfect. It's like mixing a beer/whiskey cocktail...in your mouth. This is definitely a good beer to use as a whiskey chaser, for sure.

Not an awesome beer, not by any stretch, but it's good for this purpose. The price of the bomber was right, too, at $2.89.

I'm giving ZigZag River Lager a BeerGuyPDX rating of 2 crushed cans all alone, and 3 crushed cans as a chaser.
