Great Divide Brewing Company - Hercules Double IPA

Hercules! Hercules! Hercules!
Tuesday, the worst day of the week. Seriously, people complain about Mondays, but I think Tuesdays suck the most. Does anything good ever happen on Tuesday? Hells, no. Wednesday is Humpday. Friday is TGIF, Thursday is the day before TGIF. Tuesday doesn't do anything except stand in the way of the downside of the work week.

Anyway, today is Tuesday and I need to pep it up with a fine craft beer. My pick from the fridge is Great Divide Brewing Company's Hercules Double IPA. It rings the bell at 10.0% ABV and 85 IBU's. Those are some respectable stats.

The beer poured into my Shaker pint a deep orange amber color with a minimal white head. The head dissipated rather quickly but left a ring of lacing behind with more than a bit of dusting across the top.

Aroma is sweet malt with ripe topical fruit. Pineapple and orange. I'm not picking up a lot of hops in the nose. Merry the Wonder beagle isn't drooling a drop. That has me worried.

Taste turns it around. Big bitter hops give a sting to the tastebuds. Pine and grapefruit. There's a fruity sweetness in the background, but every sip pushes it way, way back. That bitterness provides a good balance.

Medium mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. The finish is creamy and there is definitely a noticeable booziness to the stuff.

This is a damn good IPA. I'm giving it a BeerGuyPDX ratng of 3 crushed cans out of 4--more like 3 and 1/2.
