Upright Brewery - Spollen Angel

Just call me Angel in
the morning...

There are many awesome breweries here in Portland, OR. Seriously, so many that I haven't visited all of them yet. If you love beer, you must visit Portland at least once. Some fantastic creations being brewed all over this city by some of the most inventive and creative brewers anywhere.

Upright Brewery is located in the basement of an office building, within view of the beautiful Broadway Bridge and Downtown Portland.  The tasting room is an informal area set up right inside the brewing operation. There's an antique cash register (they only accept cash), a number of taps, a few tables and an old stereo spinning classic vinyl. The vibe is laid back, but the fellows manning the taps will proudly tell you everything you could possibly ever want to know about the beer they make.

On my most recent visit, I selected a 10 oz. glass of Spollen Angel (3 bucks), a Belgian-inspired brew.

The beer presented a clear, golden, yellow color with a tiny white head (over-poured). Minimal lacing remained in the glass throughout the drink.

Aroma is sweet malt and bready yeast with floral notes and a lot of tropical fruit in the background,

Tastes like a true Belgian tripel style. Banana, lemon and Belgian spices. 10.6% ABV and you can taste somewhat of an alcohol bite, but not overpowering. Pleasant malt flavor left on the palate with a nice, dry finish. Good stuff. I could handle a growler of this beer, no problem.

This is a nice one and I'm giving it a Big Dumb Galoot rating of 3 crushed cans out of 4.
